Sunshine Stars coach, Edith Agoye, has fired a warning shot to eight-time champions, Enyimba, ahead of their 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League Super 6 playoffs match-day four meeting on Friday (today), The PUNCH reports.
Despite being the less-fancied team at the ongoing Super 6 playoffs, which will determine the ultimate winners of the league and Nigeria’s representatives on the continent, Agoye’s side have managed two draws against Bendel Insurance and Remo Stars, after falling to a 1-0 defeat against Rivers United in their first game.
“Against all odds, my team has shown resilience and fighting spirit in our last two games. We came from a position of zero point to one point and now we have two points ahead of our game on Friday (today),” Agoye said after their 1-1 draw against Remo Stars.
“We know we have to win games, and when you go from zero to one, you have to celebrate that and look forward to a better result.
“This is the highest level in Nigeria’s club football, the best are playing at this level and we are trying to be among the best. To do that, we have to play and win against the best. Yes, we have not won, but we have given a good account of ourselves. We will improve and we are hopeful of making something out of this tournament,” he said.
With two points, the Owena Whales are fifth on the Super 6 table and still have a chance of picking a continental ticket at least, if they win their last two games against Enyimba and Lobi Stars while they hope other results go in their favour as well.
Their opponents, Enyimba, who are joint-top on the table, have five points from one win and two draws, leaving them with all to do in their quest for a ninth NPFL title.
