In a bid to inspire children and young people to consider careers in the aviation industry, South African Airways has reiterated its commitment to empower and provide them with essential knowledge.
The Country Manager of SAA, Kemi Leke-Bamtefa, stated this during the inaugural SAA Aviation Career Day in commemoration of the Children’s Day in Lagos.
Leke-Bamtefa said, “Children, today we celebrate you, recognising your value and contributions to our society. We promise to include you in our journey towards sustainability. As part of our efforts to empower our children, we have initiated the SAA secondary school essay competition, and now we proudly present the maiden edition of the SAA Aviation Career Day for children in Nigeria.”
According to her, the objective of the event was to encourage children and young people to feel secure and understand their significant roles in building a greater Africa.
In a statement made available to The PUNCH, the airline expressed its resolve to improve children’s access to resources and transform their mindset, beliefs, values, and attitudes.
“One way to provide access is through platforms like the career day, which showcases the various career opportunities within the aviation industry,” it noted.
Leke-Bamtefa emphasised young people’s responsibility towards shaping a greater Nigeria and Africa.
She added, “However, let us also remember the great responsibility we have towards building a greater Nigeria and Africa as a whole.”
The event featured industry experts who shared their experiences and offered guidance to the young participants.
