Stakeholders and operators in the real estate sector have explained the need to establish and sustain a legacy of excellence in Nigeria’s built environment.

They spoke while proffering solutions to some of the challenges confronting the sector at a symposium to mark the 30th anniversary of Basscomm Nig Ltd.

The symposium served as a platform to promote safety, collaboration, and excellence in Nigeria’s built industry, fostering a sustainable and thriving legacy for the future.

In his remarks, an Assistant Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Njoku Chika, emphasised the importance of conducting thorough fire risk assessments on properties across Nigeria to safeguard lives and valuable assets.

He encouraged property owners to collaborate with the Federal Fire Service right from the outset of building projects before the property became occupied.

The expertise of fire service officials was invaluable in preventing and managing fire outbreaks effectively, he said.

According to Njoku, implementing these safety measures would significantly improve response times during emergencies, thereby minimising the potentially hazardous consequences of fire incidents.

He urged property owners to have well-defined emergency escape plans to ensure the safety of occupants during critical situations.

The Managing Partner of CONSEM Associates, Adeniyi Ogunnusi, emphasised the need for businesses in Nigeria to adopt global best practices.

He stressed the importance of collaboration and outsourcing in the country’s built industry, as these strategies could lead to cost-effective and technologically advanced solutions.

Also speaking, Co-Founder of BASSCOMM Group, Dimeji Matesun, expressed the company’s commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s development.

He highlighted BASSCOMM’s role as a training ground for aspiring entrepreneurs, pointing out the company’s significant impact on landmark projects in Nigeria, ranging from electrical systems in commercial buildings to telecommunications solutions.
