In order to maintain the best practices in tax collection and administration, Ogun State has enhanced the capacity of tax inspectors in the state.

The government through the Inspectors of Taxes Forum of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service organised a one-day training for the tax inspectors in Abeokuta recently.

The State Head of Service, Mr Kolawole Peter Fagbohun, commended the initiative of the forum for recognising its position as a tool to drive the state’s revenue by organising a capacity-building session for members.

According to him, the training would make the tax inspectors more equipped in the quest to improve revenue generation.

He added that the programme was coming at the right time when the state’s quest for increased revenue generation was paramount.

The HoS charged the members of the forum to be worthy civil servants, professional, diligent and honest in the execution of their duties with commitment to the vision and mission of the current administration in the state.

According to the Chairman of Inspector of Taxes Forum, OGIRS, Mr Hezekiah Sobayo, professionalism is important in tax administration.

The Director of Corporate Development, who was also the Chairman Planning Committee, Mr Taiwo Ogundimu, appreciated members for believing in knowledge, through quest and readiness to learn from their senior colleagues.

“We all know that it is our assignment to ensure effective and increased revenue generation for the state government to function in delivering her electoral mandates, we are tools for good governance,” he noted.

Speaking on the topic ‘Inspector of Taxes Professionals: Tools for Revenue Generation’ the Director of Other Taxes, Mrs Oluyomi Dawodu, stated, “It is important for inspectors of taxes to work as tools through OGIRS with a view to generate revenue into the coffers of the State.”

In the same vein, the Director of Service Matters, Mr Olajide Oladipupo, described OGIRS as the heartbeat of the state government and urged members to discharge their roles within the ambit of the civil service rules.
