The new President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Samuel Agbeluyi, has said his administration will pursue tax reforms that will enhance Nigeria’s tax system.

He spoke during his investiture as the 16th president/chairman of council of the institute in Lagos on Saturday.

The investiture was well attended by professionals and dignitaries from different parts of the country.

While reading his acceptance speech, he said, “In this presidential tenure, we would be guided by the six-year strategic plan while focusing on these thematic areas: Enhancing members’ value with focus on ethics, standard practices, quality assurance, relevance, reward.

“Strengthen societal impact and public interest endeavours to engender trust, collaboration and influence.

“Internal governance structure would be strengthened to establish proper linkage between the secretariat and the committee for effective performance and delivery of results.”

He added that, “Expertise in cross-border taxation and tariff management would be enhanced.

“Reforms in tax administration would be pursued with the key objectives to enhance the quality of tax administration in Nigeria.

“Improve the visibility and respectability of the institute.”

The new president who said he was fully aware of the demands of his office, said he would not falter in this responsibility.

He said, “Over a week ago, we witnessed the inauguration of the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu. Today we are here for my investiture as the 16th president of the institute.

“This match of numbers may be considered a coincidence but it is also historic and significant. An opportunity beckons for CITN to play its role and deliver exceptional outcomes to facilitate national development and I assure you that our institute will not abdicate its responsibilities under my presidency in this regard.”

He thanked the immediate president, Adesina Adedayo, for his service to the institute.

The Chairman, Investiture Committee, Daniel-Adebayo, Olugbenga, said, “Our new president brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience, and vision. He has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the field of taxation.

“We are confident that under his able guidance, our institute will continue to thrive, adapt, and contribute to the growth of our nation’s economy.”
