Nigeria’s power generation company, Egbin Power Plc, has said quality education is the bedrock of development and transformational advancement in societies.

Speaking at the eighth scholarship award ceremony for members of its host communities, Chief Executive Officer, Egbin Power Plc, Mr Mokhtar Bounour, explained that education would also grow the socio-economic and human capital sectors of a country for prosperous development.

He added that the gesture was in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, saying it aimed at ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.

“The foundation of development in any community, society or nation is education because it brings sustainability, progress and raises future leaders for a more prosperous society. At Egbin Power, we realise the significance of quality education, that is why we have continued to provide the scholarship programme in our host communities,” he said.

He noted that there were a total of 14 beneficiaries, adding that  six of them were from the host communities while eight were students in Powerfield Group of School.

The beneficiaries, drawn from public schools in the host communities;  Egbin, Ijede and Ipakan were presented with the scholarship awards which covered all school expenses, including tuition, textbooks, and school uniforms in addition to other educational items.

Participants in the 2023 programme passed through stages such as verification, pre-test, boot camp, and final selection stages conducted by an independent body, following which they were admitted on scholarship into Powerfield Group of Schools owned by Egbin Power Plc.

While receiving her scholarship award, one of the beneficiaries, Abimbola Akinbiyi,  said she was happy to have emerged as one of the awardees.
