Aisha Binani emerges the winner of the Adamawa gubernatorial elections. She makes history as the second female Governor in Nigeria, the first being Dame Virginia Etiaba of Anambra state, but the first female to contest and win in a gubernatorial election.
The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Aishatu Dahiru, popularly known as Binani,was in a close race with the current governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmadu Fintiri, in the ongoing Adamawa State gubernatorial election.
Binani was declared the winner, and become Nigeria’s first woman to be elected governor of a state.
Binani won in a tightly contested election with just a little above six thousand votes higher than her opponent.
